Why it’s best to care about CES 2021
The Consumer Electronics Show has grown so far beyond its roots in consumer electronics that it is now only called CES. Over the years, the fair has developed into the world's most important annual technology trade event, with almost 4,000 exhibitors taking part and attracting over 170,000 visitors. But the times have changed. Due to the pandemic, CES 2021 will be “purely digital”. Which begs the question, does CES still play a role?
Business in a Post-Pandemic World
While it's true that the American healthcare system is reaching its limits and that Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are unacceptable, there is some good news. There are various vaccines on the horizon and great strides have been made in therapy. Conventional epidemiological evidence says we will see a long winter, but between the vaccination program and improvements in treatment protocols, we should emerge from the pandemic towards the end of 2021. McKinsey has a well-researched article on the subject. I can't know if this is true or just wishful thinking, but it is the timeframe that is most frequently cited.
A lot can happen by the fourth quarter of 2021, but no matter how difficult the times are, the pandemic will ultimately end. If so, we will be in a new world with new challenges and new opportunities. What will this future look like?
Scenario planning for a world after the pandemic
The pandemic is full of known strangers. What are the effects of the economic standstill? How do you rate the risk of bringing your employees back to the office? How do new customer preferences affect your company? Will there be inflation or deflation? A recession or a depression? As difficult as these questions are, we have helped our corporate clients rephrase them and answer them in a variety of ways. You can answer them too. Here is how.
A reliable crystal ball
In order for your scenario planning and strategic forecasting to be valuable, you need solid information. That's why CES 2021 is possibly the most important CES of all time. The magic of CES is that you can see into the future – what's new, what's next, and what it means for your business.
CES acts as an extremely reliable crystal ball every year. Would you like to know what will empower consumers in 12 months? Check out this year's technology offerings. Do you want to know what consumers will buy 18 months from now? Look out for the products that will ship in the third quarter of 2021. Would you like to know what is on the horizon? Spend time with the big manufacturers to see what's on the drawing board. Are you wondering about possible investment or business opportunities? CES is the best place to formulate and test your technology-based ideas. It is one of our “not so secret” secret weapons.
