Trump Forces Twitter's Hand; As TV information reported concerning the election: First issues first Wednesday

President Donald Trump declared victory overnight, which social media platforms and news agencies immediately identified as problematic as millions of mail-in votes in major delivery states had not yet been counted. As of this morning, five key states – Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin – have not yet submitted enough votes for their races, and they will ultimately decide the election. Trump's tweet claiming without evidence that Democrats were trying to "steal the election" received a warning from Twitter "for making a potentially misleading claim about an election". In a similar post from Trump, Facebook added the context that mail-in ballots still needed to be counted.

Connected: TV news anchor denied Trump's false claim that he won the election. Fox News' Chris Wallace said, “This is an extremely flammable situation. The President just threw a match in it. He didn't win these states. " You can find more reactions here.

Throughout the evening, TVNewser's senior editor A.J. Katz followed the reporting of the election results on network television and noted the developments in real time. Here are just a few highlights and snack bars:

  • "Florida, Florida, Florida," said CNN's John King. The battlefield state of Florida was the hottest topic in the early evening.
  • From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET, Fox News has been by far the most aggressive news agency at projecting winners.
  • All of the networks had virtual graphics, including CBS News, which historically has been more reluctant but brought in former CNN production manager David Bohrman for this year's coverage.
  • Calm, the meditation app, sponsored CNN's election coverage. The marketing move caught many Twitter users who noticed its cleverness.

Connected: Election night has been dubbed the Fox News Channel's "Super Bowl". The race coverage is a cash cow for Fox Corp., which saw quarterly profits exceed pre-Covid levels with nearly $ 100 million in revenue from political advertising alone.
