Once you've started your blog, every single website visitor feels like a valued guest. Better traffic motivates you to work harder and to multiply it. However, if you are getting consistently low website traffic, you are in no mood to work.

But there is more to it than that.

There are basically 4 sources of website traffic from which you will get traffic to your blog. These are:

  1. Organic traffic: The traffic you get from search engines (unpaid) like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.
  2. Direct traffic: The traffic that you get right on your blog. This means that visitors will open your website by entering the address in the address bar of their browser or via saved bookmarks.
  3. Referral traffic: The traffic you get from links on third party websites like social emedia platforms and other blogs where you got mentions and backlinks.
  4. Paid traffic: The traffic you get from paid campaigns like Google AdWords, Facebook Ads, Bing Ads, and other networks. You have to pay for this traffic.

Each traffic source has its own meaning, and a site must receive traffic from at least the first three sources.

Let's dive deep into the ways you can drive traffic to your website through different sources.

1) How can I drive organic traffic to your blog?

Organic traffic means traffic from search engines. For me, organic traffic is king for blogs as it has the best AdSense CTR and affiliate sales than the other traffic.

In order to build search queries, you need to deal with SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Yes, SEO is the only thing that can help you bring organic traffic to your blog.

Below are some steps you should take to improve your blog's SEO and improve your website's search rankings and, consequently, search engine traffic.

a) Do keyword research

A blog's traffic cycle starts with the searches a user types into their browser's search box, right?

These search terms are known as keywords and you should know which keywords you want to rank for. Keyword research is by far the most important and long-term blog strategy that can help your blog with visibility and traffic. According to the latest SEO statistics, almost 50% of searches are made up of four words or longer. You can use SEMrush to find high potential, low competition keywords that you can rank better.

b) Add the correct meta tags for each blog post

Publishing a post is like adding a page to your blog. Therefore it must have a meta title and description. Write better meta titles that include one of your target keywords and make sure the title is no more than 70 characters, including spaces.

The meta title has the greatest impact on search engines, so you need to write a better one for each article.

c) Update the meta description

Meta descriptions should also be well written; You should use your target keyword 1 or 2 times in it. Write it as a sentence instead of just using keywords. Make sure you only write 160-165 characters (including spaces) in it.

d) Focus on content optimization

The content is a very important part of a website for SEO. Always write unique and well-researched content that can solve your readers' problems.

Spread the selected keywords throughout the content and use the headings H1 and H2 in particular. If you can use at least one keyword in the first paragraph and the very last paragraph of the article, it is better.

My advice: Use keywords as this will drive traffic. To get that traffic and convert it into loyal readers or subscribers, your focus should be on providing valuable information as well as detailed blog posts for troubleshooting.

Don't write very small articles as Google loves the descriptive content and you may also use more keywords in the long articles. Most importantly, write evergreen content that will never get old and result in constant traffic.

Keep it while writing shortcut in your imagination. Add links to the old articles with relevant anchor texts. It improves the general link structure of the blog. You can also refer to some informative posts posted on other blogs if you need to.

Add pictures in the content as well, and add alt text to each image. You can use your keyword in alternative text. Here are a few things to add to your checklist:

1) Are you using an SEO optimized theme?

In order to drive direct traffic to your blog, you don't need to create backlinks, you need to do branding. You need to build a good brand of yourself and your blog so that people are waiting for you to get your next blog post out.

Most of my images have my branding or blog url. Even if someone copies my blog images, they either won't be able to use them, or if so, their audience will be quickly informed about my blog. This is branding!

b) Use social media

Use social media to promote your blog. If your friends and followers keep getting updates from your blog in their news feed, your blog will naturally become frozen in their minds. When they want to see something on your website, they just enter the url in the browser and open your website.

Increasing the direct traffic for your blog will take some time because nobody knows when your blog is new, but after about a year, many people will remember it by its name.

c) Choose reliable hosting

Often times, cheap hosting will cost you more than the most expensive ones. How? By giving yourself away. Most cheap hosting services keep your server down and your blog goes down from time to time. Sometimes it opens up on your end, but not for someone overseas.

3) How to drive referral traffic to your blog

Driving referral traffic to your blog is a time-consuming task. However, it is very important to get referrals because these visitors are actually interested in your content.

The reason for this is that when they see the post on either Facebook, Google+, Twitter, or in comments, they read the post's title first. So you only click if you are interested in the article. When they come, they'll be spending time on your blog.

Pro tip: Write killer headlines to increase the click-through rate of the links you've shared on social media sites or other websites.

a) Comment on the blog
